Autism Early Awareness
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, social interaction and patterns of behaviour or interests. Early awareness is valuable because it can help children access developmental assessment and appropriate support sooner.

Possible early signs
Some children may have limited response to their name, fewer gestures, reduced shared attention, delayed speech, repetitive movements, unusual sensory responses or a strong preference for routines. A child does not need to show every sign.

Development is individual
Speech delay alone does not prove autism, and children can have different strengths and needs. Hearing, language, intellectual development and other conditions may also influence communication.

Why early assessment helps
Assessment can clarify developmental needs and guide support such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, parent coaching or educational interventions. Support should focus on communication, independence and quality of life.

What parents should do
If you notice a persistent pattern or loss of skills, speak to a paediatrician or developmental professional. Avoid unproven 'cures' and treatments that promise to reverse autism.

When to seek medical help?
Any sudden loss of developmental skills, seizures, severe feeding problems or significant neurological change should be assessed promptly.
